I took Premarin from 1991 to March 1997. It
worked very well from me in taking care of hot flashes, night sweats and mood swings.
When I received my diagnosis of breast cancer, my oncologist took me off of the
Premarin as I tested estrogen positive. As if I wasn't miserable enough from
treatment, I was constantly uncomfortable from vasomotor reactions. My reactions
were so severe that my friends were often concerned that I was having angina or something
else far more threatening than hot flashes. My husband said that he didn't know that
anyone could get that warm without spontaneous combustion.
I have spent the
last 20 months on the Internet and in the medical school library looking for help.
So many of the studies that show scientific significance for soy products also mention
that with breast cancer patients there may not be a very significant real time help.
I was very skeptical when my doctor gave me a bottle of Flav-Ein.
I took about 4 or 5
days for me to notice the effect at first, but the two capsules I take each morning have
reduced the number of hot flashes from nearly hourly to 3 or 4 per day. Without
Premarin, my reactions ranged from a mild blush (very rare) to rivulets falling from my
hair and ears (more often the case). Night sweats used to cause me to have to change
my pajamas, bed linens and pillows half way through the night. I got really tired of
doing laundry. At work, it was necessary for me to keep a large fan on my desk
pointing right at my face. I was miserable most of the time. I have had to
turn the fan on perhaps only a half a dozen times in the last two months. It has
been like a miracle.
